Looking Forward to a Great New Year!
Happy New Year! You have probably been thinking about what 2016 will bring. Maybe you sat down to do a focused review of 2015 and setting next goals. Or perhaps you have had a passing thought about this year and were hoping life will be good. Each year is a segment of the journey of your life that is easier and less dawning to think than longer chunks of time.
What we all want is happiness, life satisfaction and health. We believe we can get there by getting or achieving certain things. Perhaps you want a new job, a different career, financial success with a new venture, or recognition and fame for some effort. Perhaps you want to find true love and companionship, get married, have a child, or rekindle a family or friend relationship.
If your focus is the social side of your life, then psychology experts would say you are on the right track to happiness and health. The recent TED talk by the head of the longest running happiness study at Harvard, Robert Waldinger, confirms this. The study compared the happiness levels and health of sophomores at Harvard with teenage boys living in inner city Boston over 75 years. The major finding was that good relationships keep us happier and healthier. The results of other studies show that perceived loneliness impairs our brain functions, sleep, and mental and physical well being.
A recent study in the reputable journal The Lancet did not find an association between happiness and longevity, by doing statistical manipulations to control for disease and lifestyle factors. However, I would argue that by doing so, they pulled out the key factors leading to poor health and related mortality. Even if the authors’ interpretation is correct, the study does not address quality of life!
My aim for this year is to help you learn and use skills to boost your happiness so that you can achieve your health, career and personal, feel happier and be healthier. myhappyavatar.com is a labor of love from me to you. This work gives my life meaning and improves my well being. So your interest and involvement keeps me happy and healthy. Cheers and I look forward to sharing the journey with you!
